Texas Municipal Police Association

Law Enforcement Coordinators

The Law Enforcement Coordinator ( LEC ) staff is funded and made possible through the Police Traffic Services grant with the Texas Department of Transportation. The primary purpose of the LEC staff is to act as a liaison between law enforcement and the grant funding source, TxDOT. The LEC staff is comprised of former law enforcement officers who possess not only the knowledge of TxDOT Traffic Safety Programs but also the experience needed to relay the law enforcement perspective. All members of the LEC staff served as peace officers and conducted traffic enforcement in Texas . Each LEC is assigned geographical districts and they work as an extension of the TxDOT District Traffic Safety Specialists. In this capacity the LEC staff assists law enforcement agencies, community groups, non-profits, and government agencies with traffic safety related projects. The LEC staff travels frequently to meet with individuals and groups to better serve the entire state. This group of individuals acts in a supporting role to achieve the overall goal of reducing traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries. Supporting law enforcement and fostering public education is the primary means of achieving our stated goal. Below is a list of areas that the LEC staff can assist you:

•  Serve as a traffic safety information resource and advocate

•  Share information on STEP grant opportunities to law enforcement

•  Provide technical support to law enforcement with grant related paperwork

•  Administer grant administration training

•  Share best practices among law enforcement

•  Contact prosecutors, judges and community groups on traffic safety related issues

•  Support public information and education campaigns

•  Distribute traffic safety education materials

•  Assist with child passenger safety seat events

•  Support the efforts of traffic safety partners on the local, state and national level

•  Work with law enforcement and TxDOT to improve traffic safety programs
